Last week, I attended Hay Job Evaluation Training organised by Etels Training Network Sdn Bhd. The training was really costly. Thanks to my boss because allowing me to go there. And the trainer was Mr. Robert Mosley. What is it all about? Do you know about this Hay thing?

What is Hay Job Evaluation?

Hay Job Evaluation is a methodology used by corporates and organisations to map out their job roles in the context of the organisational structure. So, as a HR Executive, job evaluation is one of my core job hence the training is really helps me in day to day job.

Hopefully after this I will perform better and achieve the KPI for this year.

Do you know what is Internet Blackout Day? And how does it related to Section 114A? What is Section 114A? Are you a blogger, admin, host, or website owner? If yes, do read this post till the end.

What is 114a?

Section 114a is a new amendment to the Evidence Act 1950 that was passed in parliament without debate in April 2012. The section is called “Presumption of fact in publication”. It states that any owner, admin, host, editor, subscriber of a network or website, or owner of computer or mobile device is presumed to have published or re-published its contents.

Why is it a problem?

It has wide-ranging reach and extends not only to practically everyone who uses any internet platform – from e-mail and social media to blogs and online media – but also those who don’t.

It is a problem because:

i) It presumes guilt rather than innocence.

ii) It makes individuals and organisations who administer, operate or provide spaces for online community forums, blogging and hosting services, liable for content that is published through its services.

iii) It allows hackers and cyber criminals to go free by making the person whose account/computer is hacked liable for any content/data which might have changed.

iv) It can make you liable for content that you did not publish when someone creates an account in your name.

v) It threatens the principle of anonymity online, which is crucial in promoting a free and open Internet.
vi) It threatens freedom of expression online.

In other words, it is against the core principles of justice, democracy and fundamental human rights.

How will this affect you?

If 114a is not stopped, you will be held responsible for the words of others. It can also result in the removal of comment functions, curtailing your space for posting legitimate comments and opinions. This impacts your democratic right to participate freely and openly in public debate and discussions. Indirectly, it will foster a climate of self-censorship, and will have a huge impact on the interactive nature of online media.

Why do we want to stop 114a?

Our opinions – as netizens and as citizens – matter. If the new Evidence Act were gazetted, 114a would seriously hinder the democratic right to freedom of expression on the Net.

Let’s keep online spaces free and open to critical comments and debates.

How can you take action?

We are asking the Malaysian government to withdraw this amendment so that online spaces and media can remain open, participatory and interactive. You can help!

a) Sign the e-petition: http://www.tinyurl.com/stop114a

b) CIJ will then take the petition to Parliament and hand it over to the de facto law minister before the end of the June parliamentary session.

c) Don’t let the law be implemented in silence. Make it visible. Promote the petition and start a conversation with your friends on your Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and comment sections about the potential implications of this act. Use the hashtag #stop114a in your online discussions!

In the Educating Readers & Commenters – Part 1, I focussed more on the visitors of this blog. Now I want to give words on you, who like to leave comments here. Firts of all, thanks to all of you for leaving questions, toughts, and feedbacks in the comment section. I really appreciate that.

However, some of you did not comments in a pleasant way (in my point of view). So here I would like to stress some guidelines in how you should leave your comments here.

The Guideline

1. Provocative, harsh and unrelated comments to a particular post will not be published.
2. Do not use keywords as your name.
3. All comments are moderated before publishing.
4. You may write a long comment, as long as it is related to the post.

Recently, I received lots of comments/spams which are promoting their product or services. The commenters also use keywords as their name when leaving the comments. I see this as a not so ethical way in leaving comments on a blog.

Please bare in mind that this guideline will be updated from time to time.

First of all, I would like to thank all of you, the readers and commenters of this blog for coming here, spare times to read my posts and leave comments. When I started blogging in English last year, there were just a few visitors. But now, I managed to get more than 200 unique visits a day!

However, some of you were not good enough in interpreting/using the information provided in this blog (or maybe I’m the one who got terrible writing skill ) and commenting with inappropriate manner.

I think this is the time for me to come up with a clear disclaimer statement. Nowadays, lot of bloggers have their own disclaimers. So, why don’t I have my own? In this post, I just want to highlight several things, you may refer to the disclaimer page for more details. This is just a review/sneak peak.

This is a personal blog

The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, mother, father, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, grandparents, cousins, step relations, or any other blood relative (unless stated otherwise). I’m writing based on my past experiences and knowledge, and the information maybe valid at that time (or maybe not true at all).

Quoting from Chrislott.org disclaimer statement:

This is a blog. That fact means nothing. This is not a peer-reviewed journal, a final archive of my writing, a sponsored publication, or the product of gatekeeping and editing. What this site is not does mean something… it means that while the ideas and thoughts here are often vital and the product of a long gestational period, the writing itself is not. It is essentially as it came from the keyboard: spontaneous, unproofed, unrevised, and corrected afterward only when necessary to address mistakes that grossly effect the intent. Where such changes have been made they are explicitly noted.

While every caution has been taken to provide you with most accurate information and honest analysis, please use your discretion before taking any decisions based on the information in this blog. I will not compensate you in any way whatsoever if you ever happen to suffer a loss/inconvenience/damage because of/while making use of information in this blog.

I would like to expressly convey to you that were I to accidentally defame, purge, humiliate and or hurt someone’s person or feelings as a result of them reading and or acting upon any or all of the information and or advice found here at my site, it is entirely unintentional of me to do so.

To be continued.
